₹74.62 Crore Sanctioned for Science Laboratories

The Project Approval Board approved two major interventions for the selected Government Secondary Schools.

1. Science Laboratory Rooms

A total of 287 Science Laboratory Rooms have been sanctioned.

The approved unit cost is ₹25 lakh per laboratory, making the total allocation for laboratory rooms ₹7,175 lakh.

2. Science Laboratory Equipment

Science Laboratory Equipment has also been sanctioned for all 287 schools.

An amount of ₹1 lakh per school has been provided for laboratory equipment, giving a total equipment allocation of ₹287 lakh.

Therefore:

Science Laboratory Rooms: ₹7,175 lakh
Science Laboratory Equipment: ₹287 lakh
Grand Total: ₹7,462 lakh

In other words, the Government has sanctioned approximately ₹26 lakh for each selected school, combining the laboratory room and laboratory equipment components.

What Facilities Will Be Provided?

The project is not limited to constructing an empty laboratory room.

The sanctioned work covers construction of Science Laboratory Rooms along with work stations, furniture, procurement, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of Science Laboratory Equipment.

Internal electrification and other allied works are also part of the project.

This is important because an effective school science laboratory requires not only infrastructure but also appropriate work areas, equipment and supporting facilities that allow students to conduct practical activities safely.

Why Are Science Laboratories Important for Students?

Science cannot be learned effectively through textbooks alone. Practical activities help students observe scientific concepts directly and connect classroom theory with real-world applications.

A properly equipped science laboratory can help students:

  • understand scientific concepts through experiments;
  • develop observation and analytical skills;
  • improve curiosity and scientific thinking;
  • gain practical experience in science;
  • participate more actively in classroom learning;
  • prepare better for higher secondary science education; and
  • develop confidence in handling scientific apparatus.

The creation of dedicated laboratory facilities can therefore strengthen the quality of science education in Government Secondary Schools.

Who Will Execute the Works?

The work has been entrusted to the Managing Director, TGEWIDC, Hyderabad, for execution on a Turnkey Basis.

The turnkey work covers the construction of laboratory rooms, work stations and furniture as well as procurement, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of laboratory equipment, internal electrification and allied works.

The works are to be taken up through the e-Procurement process while following the applicable SNA SPARSH payment provisions and approved technical specifications.

Important Guidelines for Execution

The proceedings contain detailed instructions for ensuring proper implementation.

Tender documents are required to incorporate the approved architectural and structural drawings as well as technical specifications for the Science Laboratory Rooms, work stations and laboratory equipment.

After tenders are finalised, agreements with the successful agency are to be concluded within the prescribed period, and the works are to commence after execution of the agreements.

The physical and financial progress, quality and quantity of the works are required to be monitored continuously.

Any deviation from approved estimates or increase in cost requires prior approval from the competent authority.

The laboratory equipment supplied should conform to the approved Samagra Shiksha specifications and relevant BIS/ISI standards wherever applicable.

Training, Warranty and Maintenance

Another useful feature of the proceedings is the emphasis on the usability and maintenance of the laboratory equipment.

The successful agency is required to provide necessary:

  • demonstration;
  • user training;
  • operation manuals;
  • warranty support; and
  • comprehensive maintenance during the Defect Liability/Warranty Period.

This is significant for schools because laboratory infrastructure becomes genuinely useful only when teachers and staff know how to operate and maintain the equipment properly.

Inspection Before Handover to Schools

The completed Science Laboratories are not simply to be handed over immediately after construction.

The Executive Engineer concerned and the District Educational Officer concerned are required to jointly inspect the completed works.

They have to certify that the Science Laboratory Rooms, work stations and equipment have been completed according to the approved specifications before the facilities are handed over to the respective schools.

This quality-control mechanism is intended to ensure that sanctioned facilities are completed according to prescribed standards.

Telangana Science Laboratory Sanctioned Schools List 2026-27

The official proceedings contain an Annexure-I with the school-wise list of all 287 Government schools selected for Science Laboratory Rooms and equipment.

The annexure provides important information such as:

District → Mandal → UDISE Code → School Name → Number of Units → Unit Cost → Total Cost

Teachers, Headmasters, parents and students can check the official school-wise list to know whether their school has been included.

How to Check Whether Your School Is Sanctioned

  1. Open the official school-wise sanctioned list.
  2. Select or identify your District.
  3. Check the Mandal.
  4. Find your School Name.
  5. Verify the school using its UDISE Code.
  6. Check the sanctioned unit and cost shown against the school.

Since many schools may have similar names, checking the UDISE Code is the safest method of confirming the correct school.

What Should Headmasters of Selected Schools Do?

Headmasters of schools appearing in the sanctioned list should keep the proceedings and school details readily available and coordinate with the concerned educational and engineering authorities whenever implementation begins.

They should particularly verify their:

School Name, UDISE Code, Mandal and District.

During execution, school authorities should also remain aware of the sanctioned scope of work and ensure that the completed facilities and equipment are properly recorded and maintained after official handover.
