What Is the LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarship?

The LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarship is an educational assistance programme intended to help academically meritorious students from economically weaker sections continue their higher education.

The scholarship covers students studying in recognised government or private colleges, universities, Industrial Training Institutes and vocational institutions in India. It is divided into two categories:

  1. General Scholarship: For students who have completed Class 12 or Diploma.

  2. Special Scholarship: For students who have completed Class 10 and joined Intermediate, 10+2, Diploma, Vocational or ITI courses.

Course-Wise Scholarship Amount

The annual scholarship amount depends on the course selected by the student.

Course category Scholarship per year Instalments
Medicine – MBBS, BAMS, BHMS and BDS ₹50,000 Two instalments of ₹25,000
Engineering – BE, BTech and BArch ₹40,000 Two instalments of ₹20,000
Graduation, Integrated Courses, Diploma, Vocational and ITI ₹20,000 Two instalments of ₹10,000

Important clarification

Some social-media posters show ₹40,000 for Medicine and ₹30,000 for Engineering. Those are older rates. Under the official 2026 scheme, the amounts are ₹50,000 for Medicine and ₹40,000 for Engineering.

Eligibility for General Scholarship After Class 12 or Diploma

A student must satisfy all the following conditions:

  • The applicant must have passed Class 12, Diploma or an equivalent examination with at least 60% marks or equivalent CGPA.

  • The qualifying examination must have been passed during the academic year 2023–24, 2024–25 or 2025–26.

  • The student must have taken first-year admission during 2026–27 in an eligible course.

  • Eligible courses include Medicine, Engineering, Graduation in any discipline, Integrated Courses, Diploma, Vocational courses and ITI courses.

  • The institution must be recognised by the appropriate government or competent authority.

  • The combined annual income of the applicant’s parents or guardian from all sources must not exceed ₹4,50,000.

Diploma students admitted through lateral entry into the second year of an Engineering degree may also apply, provided they secured at least 60% marks or equivalent CGPA in the Diploma examination during one of the specified academic years.

Eligibility for Special Scholarship After Class 10

Students applying under the Special Scholarship category must meet these conditions:

  • The applicant must have passed Class 10 or an equivalent examination with at least 60% marks or equivalent CGPA.

  • Class 10 must have been completed during 2023–24, 2024–25 or 2025–26.

  • The educational institution must be recognised by the government or appropriate authority.

  • The total annual income of the parents or guardian must not exceed ₹4,50,000.

Under the 2026 scheme, this category is open to both boys and girls. Each LIC Division normally selects 20 boys and 20 girls under the Special Scholarship, subject to merit, eligibility and interchangeability of unfilled gender-wise vacancies.

Number of Scholarships

Each of LIC’s 112 Divisional Offices may select up to:

  • 80 students under the General Scholarship: 40 boys and 40 girls.

  • 40 students under the Special Scholarship: 20 boys and 20 girls.

This provides for up to 13,440 scholarships across India, subject to sufficient eligible applications and the selection process.

Selection Process

Submitting an application does not automatically guarantee a scholarship. Selection is made according to the official eligibility and merit rules.

Applicants are initially ranked based on the marks obtained in Class 10, Class 12 or Diploma, as applicable. If two candidates have the same percentage, preference is given to the student whose family has the lower annual income.

If both marks and income are equal, LIC may examine the applicants’ financial needs and family background before making the final decision.

Applications are automatically forwarded to the appropriate LIC Divisional Office based on the PIN code entered by the applicant. Shortlisted students will be contacted through their registered email address for document verification.

Documents Required

Applicants must upload the following documents while submitting the online application:

  • Parent or guardian’s valid income certificate.

  • Mark sheet of the last qualifying examination.

  • Proof of first-year admission for the academic year 2026–27.

Each uploaded image should be clear and should generally not exceed 2 MB.

  • Aadhaar or e-Aadhaar details.

  • PAN details, wherever requested.

  • Active bank account details and correct IFSC code.

  • Cancelled cheque bearing the beneficiary’s name, if selected.

  • Valid mobile number and email address.

  • Original income certificate, mark sheet and admission proof for physical verification.

The income certificate should be issued by a competent Revenue Authority and should mention the parents’ combined gross annual income from all sources, including agricultural income.
