What Is SHVR 2026-27?

Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating, commonly known as SHVR, is a national school-rating programme of the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education.

The programme assesses the availability and quality of water, sanitation, hygiene, environmental practices and sustainable behaviour in schools.

More than 10 lakh schools reportedly completed self-assessment under SHVR 2025-26. Following the evaluation and national-level cross-verification process, 191 schools from 29 States and Union Territories were selected for the National Level Certificate of Merit.

For 2026-27, participation is mandatory for eligible schools possessing a valid UDISE+ code.

Schools Covered Under SHVR

SHVR 2026-27 covers different categories of schools, including:

  • Government schools
  • Government-aided schools
  • Private schools
  • Residential schools
  • Tribal welfare schools
  • Minority schools
  • Centrally managed schools
  • KVS and NVS schools
  • CBSE-affiliated schools

Every eligible school should complete its registration and self-assessment accurately within the prescribed timeline.

Six SHVR Assessment Areas

Schools are assessed across the following six thematic areas:

  1. Water
  2. Toilets
  3. Handwashing with soap
  4. Operation and maintenance
  5. Behaviour change and capacity building
  6. Mission LiFE activities

These areas help schools identify their strengths and the facilities or practices that need improvement.

SHVR Category-Wise Maximum Marks

SHVR category Maximum score
Water 22
Toilets 27
Handwashing with soap 14
Operation and maintenance 21
Behaviour change and capacity building 20
Mission LiFE activities 21
Total 125

SHVR Star Rating System

Compliance level Rating Performance
90% to 100% 5 Star Excellent
75% to 89% 4 Star Very Good
51% to 74% 3 Star Good, with scope for improvement
35% to 50% 2 Star Fair; improvement required
Below 35% 1 Star Considerable improvement required

Schools should treat the self-assessment as an opportunity to improve their facilities and practices—not merely as an online formality.

How to Complete SHVR Registration and Self-Assessment

Step 1: Visit the official portal

Open the official SHVR website:

https://shvr.education.gov.in

Schools may also use the official Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating mobile application, wherever available.

Step 2: Sign up with the UDISE+ code

Enter the school’s valid UDISE+ code and verify the pre-filled information, such as:

  • School name
  • State
  • District
  • Block
  • Village

Step 3: Enter the required information

Provide the school address and details of the person responsible for completing the assessment, including:

  • Name
  • Designation
  • Mobile number
  • Email address

Step 4: Create and preserve the password

Create a secure password and complete the sign-up process. The school should record the password safely because it will be required for future login.

Step 5: Complete the self-assessment

Log in using the UDISE+ code and registered password. Answer every question based on the school’s actual facilities and practices.

Keep relevant photographs and supporting information ready before starting the assessment.

Step 6: Upload photographs and submit

Upload clear and recent photographs wherever requested. Check every entry carefully before pressing the final submit button.

After submission, retain a screenshot or acknowledgement for school records.

Important Precautions for Headmasters

Before submitting the SHVR self-assessment, Headmasters should verify the following:

  • Information reflects the school’s present condition.
  • Photographs are recent, clear and relevant.
  • Functional facilities are not confused with facilities that merely exist.
  • Water and toilet facilities are checked physically.
  • Handwashing stations have water and soap.
  • Cleaning and maintenance records are updated.
  • Mission LiFE and environmental activities are properly documented.
  • Submitted information is reviewed for omissions or incorrect entries.

Schools should not enter inaccurate information simply to obtain a higher rating. A truthful assessment helps educational authorities identify genuine needs and plan suitable improvements.

What Is PRASHAST 2.0?

PRASHAST 2.0 is a school-based screening and support initiative intended to help teachers observe signs of potential disabilities among children and facilitate timely educational support.

It is designed to promote early identification and inclusive education. PRASHAST is a screening support tool and should not be treated as a medical diagnosis.

Teachers can access the official portal at:

https://prashast.education.gov.in

Login generally requires the school UDISE code and the mobile number mapped in the UDISE+ system.
