BEE Painting Competition 2026: Eligibility, Prizes & Deadline

Indian school students painting energy-saving ideas for the BEE Energy Conservation Painting Competition 2026. Title: BEE Energy Conservation Painting Competition 2026
Students turn everyday energy-saving habits into art.

The BEE Painting Competition 2026 invites school students in Classes 5–10 to express energy-saving ideas through art. Organised by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency under the Ministry of Power, the competition progresses from schools to State/UT and national events. Schools should arrange participation through their headmaster or principal.

Beyond the prizes, this is a useful classroom opportunity: children can observe how electricity is used in their own school and home, identify waste, and communicate a practical solution in a painting.

Official deadline checked on 13 October 2026: 25 October 2026. The current BEE portal and 2026 English circular show this date. The newspaper report dated 13 October mentions 15 October; use the current official circular and confirm receipt arrangements with your State/UT nodal officer. Entries must reach the officer within the deadline.

Official Painting Topics

The 2026 school-level circular lists these topics:

  • Save Energy at School and Home
  • Energy Conservation is the Key for Energy Security

Students should build a clear scene around the selected topic. A painting about a classroom, household or neighbourhood can be more effective when it shows an actual energy-saving action, rather than only a slogan or a decorative picture of the Earth.

Who Can Participate?

Students must belong to recognised schools or eligible educational institutions and fit the class group shown above. A school may enter one group or both.

Previous winners: first-, second- or third-prize winners at State or national level in 2023, 2024 or 2025 cannot re-enter the same group in 2026. A former Group A winner may enter Group B when eligible for its classes.

School Submission: What the Headmaster Should Do

  1. Check the documents: read the current circular and methodology; contact the nodal officer to confirm the accepted delivery method and any local instructions.
  2. Organise the school round: conduct a two-hour session using A4 sheets. Arrange basic materials so interested children can participate.
  3. Select the entries: a school jury chooses two paintings per participating group.
  4. Identify each painting: on the reverse, record the student's name, class, group, school name/address, residential address and mobile contact.
  5. Submit promptly: send the selected work and complete participant details to the State/UT nodal officer, allowing time for delivery.

The 2026 methodology (PDF) directs school entries to the State nodal officer. Registration on the portal should not be treated as proof that the paintings have been received.

Cash Prizes at State and National Levels

The prize structure applies separately to Group A and Group B.

Progression: 50 students per group are shortlisted for the State/UT event. Its top three winners per group qualify for the national round.

How Paintings Are Judged in 2026

Assessment areaMarks
Fit with the topic10
Technique and clear expression20
Appearance, layout and colour balance20
Total50

These marks come from the 2026 methodology. The portal's older FAQ contains a different split; use the current-year document.

For students, this means the message and the presentation both matter. Before colouring, decide what the viewer should understand within a few seconds. Leave enough space around the main subject and avoid filling every corner with unrelated symbols.

Five Drawing Ideas Students Can Develop

These are preparation suggestions from The Complete School, not additional official topics. Students should create their own composition and connect it to an announced topic.

  • The last student leaving: show a child checking that unused classroom lights and fans are switched off before departure.
  • A bright classroom: depict reading near windows in daylight, with artificial lighting used only where needed.
  • A family energy checklist: show small actions in different rooms, such as switching off an unused television and reducing unnecessary lighting.
  • A school energy team: illustrate students observing waste and reminding classmates through a notice board or an assembly message.
  • A future-ready neighbourhood: combine responsible electricity use with rooftop solar, showing conservation alongside cleaner power generation.

A useful practice exercise is to ask each child to explain the painting in one sentence. If the explanation is difficult, simplify the scene. Students can practise a few small sketches before attempting a complete timed painting.

A Practical Checklist for Schools and Parents

  • Choose a convenient school date: account for holidays and delivery time. Contact the nodal office early instead of waiting until the last day.
  • Maintain a participant register: record the child's name, class, group and a reliable parent contact. Ask a second teacher to check the selected entries' details.
  • Keep a school record: photograph the selected paintings and retain the dispatch receipt or acknowledgement. These are useful administrative records, not substitutes for submission.
  • Make preparation fair: help children understand energy use and obtain materials; let them develop and execute their own ideas.
  • Protect the artwork: allow paint to dry fully, package sheets flat and check that reverse-side details are readable.
  • Continue the lesson: after the activity, ask every class to choose one practical energy-saving habit to follow for a week.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should parents prepare the final painting for the child?

Parents can discuss energy-saving habits, arrange materials and encourage practice. The final artwork should express the student's own thinking and drawing skills.

Is an attractive painting enough without a clear energy message?

Plan the message before choosing colours. A viewer should be able to identify the problem and the energy-saving action without needing a long explanation.

Which rules need special attention?

Check the previous-winner restriction and the current methodology. Religious figures are prohibited, and national entrants must avoid repeating their State-level painting.

What can a student gain even without winning a prize?

The activity offers practice in observation, visual communication and managing time. A school can use the discussion afterwards to connect science lessons with everyday electricity use.

Make the Competition a Useful School Activity

A successful school programme does more than forward selected paintings. It gives every participating child a chance to notice a real problem, suggest a solution and communicate it creatively. Headmasters should check the official instructions, prepare complete entries and arrange timely delivery. Teachers can then turn the ideas in the paintings into simple habits followed in the classroom and at home.
