Published: 16 September 2026 | PTM Date: Saturday, 19 September 2026

The Telangana School Education Department has issued instructions to conduct the September 2026 Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM) on 19 September 2026 (Saturday) in all Government Schools, Local Body Schools, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) and Telangana Model Schools. The theme of the meeting is “Partnering with Parents, Powering Every Child’s Learning.”

The proceedings were issued by the Director of School Education and Ex-Officio State Project Director, Samagra Shiksha, Telangana, through Rc.No.2751/SS/T4/2022, dated 16 September 2026. The programme follows the simple framework Guide – Shine – Decide and gives parents an opportunity to watch their children speak English through familiar, enjoyable activities.

Important clarification: The proceedings do not prescribe one common clock time for every school. Headmasters may conduct the PTM at a time convenient to parents, particularly because many parents in rural areas are engaged in agricultural work and many urban parents have work commitments.

What Headmasters Should Complete Before the PTM

Careful preparation can make the meeting welcoming, useful and focused on each child’s progress. Headmasters and teachers should complete the following work before 19 September:

  • Send a written invitation to every parent through the student and clearly mention the date and school-level timing.
  • Make a special effort to contact parents who usually do not attend PTMs and encourage their participation.
  • In High Schools, conduct a class-wise review of students’ performance with parents before the common meeting.
  • Read the agenda with all teachers and decide which one or two English activities are most suitable for each class.
  • Download the required PTM resources through the Telangana School Education App using the school credentials.
  • Arrange chairs in a circle or U-shape so that parents and children can see and interact with one another.
  • Keep the attendance register, report cards, student-progress records, feedback register and activity materials ready.

SHINE Activities: Let Every Child Speak English

The central purpose of the September PTM is simple: every parent should watch their child speak English. Teachers may choose one or two of the following activities according to the age and confidence level of their students. Grammar mistakes need not be corrected during the activity; every sincere attempt should be appreciated.

1. Cultural Show and Tell – 8 Minutes

Each child speaks for about one minute in English about a festival, food item or family tradition. Since the subject is familiar, children can focus on speaking rather than memorising difficult information.

2. Picture Description – 8 Minutes

Show a picture of a market, meal, school morning or festival. Children may use simple sentence starters such as “I can see…”, “There is a…” and “The boy is…”. Teachers and parents should encourage every attempt.

3. Role Play – 8 Minutes

Children act out a short everyday situation in English. They may practise buying something at a market, speaking to a doctor or describing their school day at home. The activity makes English purposeful and enjoyable.

4. Festival Timeline – 6 Minutes

Draw a timeline from January to December on the board. Children name a festival celebrated in a selected month and say one English sentence about it. This connects language learning with local culture and lived experience.

Teacher’s note: Completing all four activities is not compulsory. One or two activities conducted meaningfully are better than rushing through all four. The priority is that parents see and appreciate their child speaking English.

Discussion with Parents: What Should the Child Learn?

Before suggesting home activities, teachers may ask parents what skills they want their children to develop. Useful questions include:

  • What is one skill you want your child to learn before completing school?
  • Apart from reading and mathematics, what skills will your child need in the future?
  • What do you wish you had learned when you were a child?
  • If your child could become confident in one skill by the end of this year, what would you choose?

Teachers can connect parents’ responses about communication, confidence and speaking skills with the English activities demonstrated by the children during the PTM.

Three Simple English Activities Parents Can Try at Home

  1. Ask every day: Each evening, ask the child to explain one thing that happened at school in English. The child may first use Telugu or gestures if a word is difficult.
  2. Listen without correcting: Give the child full attention, smile and ask one more question. Constant correction can reduce confidence; patient listening encourages speaking.
  3. Read anything nearby: Read one English sentence together from a biscuit packet, medicine box, calendar, newspaper or road sign. No special book is required.

These activities are practical even when parents do not know English. Their interest, encouragement and willingness to listen are more important than language expertise.

One-to-One Conversation with Each Parent

After the group session, each teacher should briefly meet every parent and discuss the child’s progress in a positive and specific manner:

  • Explain the report card and results in simple language, focusing on what the child can do and not merely on marks.
  • Share at least one clear strength, positive behaviour or good classroom contribution.
  • Ask the parent whether they have noticed any positive behaviour or achievement at home.
  • Identify one area for improvement and present it as something the school and parent can work on together.

If a child has performed poorly in an examination, the conversation should not discourage the child or parent. Teachers may recommend a manageable routine, such as at least 15 minutes of reading or academic practice each day.

Mandatory Work After the Parent-Teacher Meeting

  • Record the minutes of the meeting.
  • Enter the PTM date, invitation method, total school enrolment, number of targeted parents and number of parents who attended.
  • Upload PTM photographs, videos, data and minutes to the Telangana School Education App on the same day.
  • Record how many parents attended and how many received or selected a home-learning tracking activity.
  • Collect one-word written feedback and, where appropriate, a few short parent voice notes or videos.
  • Note which home activity received the strongest response for follow-up during the November PTM.
  • Contact parents after 30 days and ask whether they tried the selected activity and what change they observed.
