Telangana RPS 2020 Pay Scales & Increment Chart for Teachers
![]() |
| A guide to teacher pay scales, annual increments and AAS benefits under Telangana RPS 2020. |
Telangana RPS 2020 pay scales help teachers and school offices identify the correct basic-pay stage and the amount of the next annual increment. An employee's sanctioned scale, present basic pay and increment date must be read together to check a salary entry.
This guide brings together the master-scale increment chart, pay ranges for SGTs, Language Pandits, PETs, School Assistants and Grade-II Headmasters/MEOs, and the 6, 12, 18 and 24-year Automatic Advancement Scheme (AAS) stages. Worked examples and a practical record checklist explain how to use the figures.

How to Read a Pay Scale and Find the Next Increment
A scale written as ₹31,040–830–31,870–940–34,690 uses alternating pay amounts and increment amounts. Starting from ₹31,040, adding ₹830 gives ₹31,870. From ₹31,870, the applicable increment becomes ₹940, leading to ₹32,810, ₹33,750 and ₹34,690 on successive eligible increments.
For a normal one-stage increment, find the present basic in the chart and add the amount shown beside it. Confirm that the next stage is permitted within the employee's sanctioned scale. A master-scale stage can exist even when it lies above that employee's ordinary-scale maximum.

The final master-scale stage is ₹1,62,070. The last row leads to this amount from ₹1,58,380. Apply the separate rules for stagnation or other sanctioned benefits when an employee reaches the maximum of their own time scale.
Chart calculated from the master scale in G.O.Ms.No.51. A full copy of the government order and departmental schedules is available from TSSO, a separate host.
Accuracy Check for Higher Pay Stages
The increment band beginning at ₹1,33,630 is ₹3,420. The sequence is ₹1,33,630 → ₹1,37,050 → ₹1,40,470 → ₹1,43,890 → ₹1,47,310. From ₹1,47,310, the increment changes to ₹3,690. Check these entries carefully when copying a chart into a worksheet.
Telangana Teacher Pay Scales: Ordinary and AAS Reference Ranges
The table summarises the standard teaching-cadre progression illustrated by these RPS 2020 ranges. It is intended for eligible employees following the relevant promotional route. The range identifies a scale; it does not determine an individual's fixed basic pay or establish eligibility by itself.
SGT means Secondary Grade Teacher; LP means Language Pandit; PET means Physical Education Teacher. The first column of cadre ranges below covers LP Grade-II. LP Grade-I, Physical Directors Grade-II and primary-school Headmasters are listed with School Assistants at the ordinary-scale level in the original departmental schedule. Check any subsequent promotion or upgradation separately.
| Stage | SGT / LP Grade-II / PET | School Assistant | Gazetted HM Grade-II / MEO |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ordinary scale | 31,040–92,050 | 42,300–1,15,270 | 51,320–1,27,310 |
| 6 years: Special Grade | 32,810–96,890 | 43,490–1,18,230 | 54,220–1,33,630 |
| 12 years: SPP-IA / SAPP-IA, as applicable | 42,300–1,15,270 | 51,320–1,27,310 | 58,850–1,37,050 |
| 18 years: SPP-IB / SAPP-IB, as applicable | 42,300–1,15,270* | 51,320–1,27,310* | 58,850–1,37,050* |
| 24 years: SPP-II / SAPP-II, as applicable | 51,320–1,27,310 | 58,850–1,37,050 | 67,300–1,43,890 |
*18-year clarification: The IB stage operates in the existing scale under the applicable scheme. The repeated minimum–maximum range does not mean the 18-year benefit can be ignored. Check the sanctioned increment/fixation and its effective date.
Read the School Education schedule in G.O.Ms.No.51 together with G.O.Ms.No.65 and the relevant promotional service rules. The Telangana MCR HRD Institute's Service Matters manual, printed pages 26–27, explains the qualifying-service stages and increment conditions.
Annual Increment, AAS and Pay Revision: What Changes?
- Annual increment: Moves the eligible employee to the next pay stage within the applicable time scale.
- AAS: Provides a service-linked benefit at the prescribed stage, subject to qualifying service, the promotional route, qualifications and other conditions.
- Pay revision: Refixes pay under a new set of revised scales. The 30% fitment in the original RPS 2020 order relates to that revision.
For an AAS proposal, identify service that counts for the benefit, previous promotions and earlier AAS sanctions. Ask the establishment section to verify required qualifications and departmental-test records. Our Telangana Departmental Tests guide explains the listed papers and official reference links; the employee's own service rules determine which tests matter.
Worked Examples of RPS 2020 Increments
These examples illustrate the arithmetic for a normal one-stage increment, assuming it is due and permitted in the sanctioned scale. Promotion and AAS fixation require their own rule-based calculation.
| Present basic (₹) | Increment (₹) | Next basic (₹) |
|---|---|---|
| 31,040 | 830 | 31,870 |
| 31,870 | 940 | 32,810 |
| 43,490 | 1,190 | 44,680 |
| 44,680 | 1,280 | 45,960 |
| 1,33,630 | 3,420 | 1,37,050 |
The middle two examples show why the amount changes at a band boundary: ₹43,490 attracts ₹1,190, while ₹44,680 attracts ₹1,280. Keeping the same increment amount for every future year would produce incorrect stages.
A Practical Pay-Record Checklist for Teachers and Headmasters
- Identify the sanctioned scale. Take it from the latest relevant fixation, promotion or AAS order. Note the order number and effective date.
- Record the present basic. Compare the service-register entry with the payslip for the month immediately before the change.
- Check the increment date. Review the last fixation and any order affecting qualifying service or withholding an increment.
- Calculate the expected stage. For a normal increment, use the chart and check the employee's scale maximum. Refer promotion, AAS or stagnation cases for the appropriate calculation.
- Reconcile the authorised result. Compare the approved fixation, service entry and subsequent salary bill. If they differ, raise a written query with the supporting order and month-wise figures.
Keep a short worksheet with six fields: employee name/ID, sanctioned scale, present basic, effective date, expected next basic and sanction reference. This gives the Headmaster or Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO) a clear starting point for verification.

Does a Basic-Pay Increase Equal the Increase in Take-Home Salary?
Basic pay is one component of salary. Gross salary also includes admissible allowances, while take-home pay reflects the deductions applicable to the employee. After a basic-pay change, compare each affected allowance and deduction with the relevant orders and salary bill. The increment chart alone cannot give a reliable net-salary figure.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Telangana RPS 2020 annual increment always 3%?
The master scale specifies rupee amounts that change between bands. Find the employee's present basic in the chart and use the applicable amount.
What is the increment at a basic pay of ₹31,040?
The increment is ₹830, taking basic pay to ₹31,870 when the normal increment is due and admissible.
Why do the 12-year and 18-year AAS rows show the same scale range?
The IB benefit is dealt with in the existing scale under the applicable AAS provisions. Verify the increment/fixation sanction and date even when the scale limits remain the same.
Does completing six calendar years automatically establish AAS eligibility?
The office must verify qualifying service and the applicable conditions, including earlier promotions or advancement benefits. Use the competent authority's sanction to process the benefit.
Is ₹1,62,070 the maximum pay of every teacher?
₹1,62,070 is the master-scale ceiling. Each cadre or sanctioned AAS scale has its own limits, as illustrated in the teacher reference table.
Can I compare my basic pay directly with a colleague's?
First compare the sanctioned scale, qualifying service, increment date, promotions and AAS history. A similar designation alone does not explain every difference in fixed pay.
Before Preparing the Next Salary Bill
Write down the employee's sanctioned scale, present basic and next increment date. Match the arithmetic with the chart, then compare the result with the supporting order and service record. Resolving a specific mismatch early makes the next salary-bill check easier for both the employee and the school office.
